Havanas (normal fur)

Whats in the nest? See our In The Nest page.

Havana rabbits are a fur breed with short, dense and glossy coats. Besides the texture of their coat, one of the most attractive things about them is their colour. Genetically speaking they are a high umbrus brown, so basically a really dark chocolate, almost black (think black tea or coffee). They are meduim sized between 5 1/2 & 6 1/2 lbs. They enjoy human companionship and are gentle souls with a demure personality, I would reccomend this breed for children.

Havanas are a very old breed which began in the Netherlands in 1891, becoming very popular in the early 1900's. Sadly nowadays there is only a handful of studs in the UK whom breed to show quality in significant numbers.

In the UK they are only recognised in chocolate, however in other parts of the world they are recognised in black, blue & lilac in solid & broken!!!!

It is believed that dutch and himilayan rabbits can be found in the havanas ancestry. Many other breeds have been founded using havanas including perflee, lilac, siberian and argente brun, and on the continent Feh de Marbourg and Gris Perle de Hal.

Danté

We are very lucky to have this buck, whom has been on winners row at 'The London' 2009, 5 star show and come 6th in the adult fur challenge. He also has a few best furs under his belt. He is a good over all package but could do with a touch more density in coat. Danté is a really friendly chap too which just puts the icing on the cake.
